Hugh Morton photographs and films: Grandfather Mountain, late 1930s-early 2000s (bulk 1940s-1990s) (Series 4).

Series 4 consists of approximately 70,850 images of or pertaining to Grandfather Mountain in Linville, N.C., including scenic views of and on the mountain itself, the tourist attraction owned and operated by the Morton family at/near the summit of the Mountain, and construction and development on and around the Mountain. The images in Series 4 date from the late 1930s through the early 2000s, with the bulk from the 1940s through the 1990s. Where image dates are unknown (as in many cases), a date range has been estimated based on film type and subject matter. Scenic views that are not specifically identified or recognizable as Grandfather Mountain, as well as views of wildlife not included in the Environmental Habitats at Grandfather, are included in Series 3 (Nature and Scenic). Many additional images pertaining to Grandfather Mountain, but associated with specific identified individuals, are included in Series 2 (People and Events). Images of golf courses not specifically identified as Grandfather Golf and Country Club are included in Series 6 (Sports).
